Like most of Disney's animated classics debuting on DVD each fall in "Platinum" editions, the 55-year-old "Cinderella" got out of the gate quickly with more than 1 million copies sold on the first day.
The sales performance puts the title on track to sell on the high side of the range of other Disney animated classics in recent years that sold between 4 million and 7 million copies each, such as "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin."
"The Lion King" generated sales of about 10 million copies in late 2003.
Reaching sales of 7 million copies will likely put "Cinderella" among the top 10 selling DVDs of the year, and the only catalog release among new theatrical titles such as "The Incredibles," "Shark Tale" and other likely strong contenders coming to DVD over the next few weeks, such as "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith," "War of the Worlds" and "Madagascar."
