Casting talks on break

Round two expected to start in a few weeks

Hollywood and New York casting directors and associates have concluded their first round of contract negotiations with studios and networks, with a second round expected to start in several weeks.

Bargaining lasted three days between the Teamsters, who were voted in this summer as the official reps for the casting directors on a 243-9 tally, and the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers.

Negotiators gave no details as to issues, but key areas are likely to include wage scales, health-care coverage, late pay and performing uncompensated work.

The casting directors are repped through Teamsters Local 817 in New York and Local 399 in Los Angeles. The Teamsters spent three years in an effort to organize the casting directors, one of the few significant groups of Hollywood workers who had not been unionized.

Local 399 also represents 4,100 studio drivers, location managers, location scouts and animal wranglers.
