Blighty abuzz with Blond Bond rumor

Tabloid newshounds on trail of 007 dog Daniel Craig

LONDON -- The plot of nail-biting drama "Who's going to be the next James Bond?" took yet another twist Tuesday as Blighty tabloid The Daily Mail declared that 37-year-old Daniel Craig has been cast to play world's most famous Martini drinker.

It had previously been reported that Craig was offered the role but turned it down on the grounds that he didn't want to be typecast.

Brit thesp, who plays the second lead in Spielberg's terrorist thriller "Munich," would be the first blond Bond.

Craig's publicist only offered a "no comment" and the PRs at Eon Productions, the producers of the Bond franchise, were said to be "in a meeting."

Craig's agents ICM in London said they couldn't comment until Eon made an announcement but expected that 007 producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson would let the cat out of the bag by the end of the week.
