Pact calls for Shepard to direct a pilot for Touchstone, most likely next spring. Deal comes in the wake of a strong ratings start for "Criminal Minds," the Touchstone/Paramount-produced CBS drama that marked Shepard's pilot directing bow.
Shepard's "The Matador" recently screened at the Toronto Film Festival; the Weinstein Co. picked it up at Sundance for $7.5 million (Daily Variety, Jan. 25). Pic, starring Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear, is slated to open in limited release later this fall.
After "The Matador," Shepard inked with Warner Independent to write and direct "Spring Break in Bosnia."
Gersh-repped Shepard said execs at Touchstone "couldn't have been more supportive during the 'Criminal Minds' process," adding he was ready for more "creative experiences in the trenches with them."
"Criminal Minds" moves into its regular 9 p.m. Wednesday timeslot this week.
