Redford, Newman reunite for show

Co-stars are 'Iconoclasts'

Robert Redford and Paul Newman

Robert Redford questions occasional co-star Paul Newman about his career for docu-series, 'Iconoclasts.'

NEW YORK -- Robert Redford and Paul Newman are back together again in an episode of the Sundance Channel's new six-part documentary profile series "Iconoclasts."

As founder of the Sundance Channel and exec producer of "Iconoclasts," Redford, who co-starred with Newman in "The Sting" and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," becomes the reporter-interviewer in the episode. He will probe Newman's life and work, from his movie performances to his racecar driving to his philanthropy.

Jon Kamen, another exec producer of the series, shot the interviews to be woven throughout the hour at the Westport Country Playhouse and at Newman's home in Westport, Conn.

"Iconoclasts" pairs two well-known personages, one to draw out the subject of the hour.

In another pairing, Christiane Amanpour, CNN's London-based correspondent, will find herself the subject of questioning from Renee Zellweger. The two talked in New York this week at the former site of the World Trade Center and at CNN studios.

Series kicks off Nov. 17 with a visit by Samuel L. Jackson to the Seattle home of basketball legend Bill Russell, who talks about his life and career, not only in a formal interview but as he chats with Jackson on the golf course.

On Nov. 24, artist Jeff Koons shows his New York studio to fashion designer Tom Ford.

Sumner M. Redstone, chairman-CEO of Viacom, one of the owners of Sundance Channel, takes Brian Grazer on what the network calls "a surprising shopping spree at a local fish store" during the Dec. 1 episode.

The Dec. 8 Zellweger/Amanpour hour is followed on Dec. 15 by one in which chef Mario Batali attempts to discover what motivates Michael Stipe, the politically active lead singer and founding member of R.E.M.

Series concludes Dec. 22 with Redford on Newman.

The producers of "Iconoclasts" are Sundance Channel and Grey Goose Entertainment, in association with Conde Nast Media Group. Along with Redford and Kamen, the exec producers are Michael Davies ("Who Wants to Be a Millionaire") and Greg Schultz. Kamen, Davies and Schultz run a company called @radical.media.
