Hall gets Cooking

Franklin, Costello, the Dixie Hummingbirds to perform at Nov. 5 tribute

From Oct. 31 to Nov. 6, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will celebrate the legacy of Sam Cooke.

Program will feature panels, films, educational programs, a daylong conference at Case Western Reserve U. and two tribute events.

Aretha Franklin, Elvis Costello, the Dixie Hummingbirds, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Cissy Houston, Peter Wolf, Taj Mahal, Otis Clay, William Bell are among those skedded to perform a tribute Nov. 5 at Cleveland's State Theater.

Second event, Nov. 6 at the State Theater, will feature Franklin, Lou Rawls, the Blind Boys, Dixie Hummingbirds, Houston, Mahal and Clay, amongothers.

Program is part of the hall's American Music Masters series, an effort to raise awareness and understanding of artists who created great music and used the music as a cultural and political force. Last year, the hall focused on folksinger Leadbelly and featured performances by Los Lobos, Robert Plant, John Hiatt, Oscar Brand and Clarence Gatemouth Brown.
