Hader, a member of Second City's Los Angeles troupe, and Samberg, a part of writer-performer collective the Lonely Island, will join NBC's "Saturday Night Live" as featured players Oct. 1 when the show begins its 31st season.
Meanwhile, Kenan Thompson and Finesse Mitchell have been bumped up to full-fledged cast members. And in an "SNL" first, two cast members -- Maya Rudolph and head writer-"Weekend Update" co-anchor Tina Fey -- will be on maternity leave in the fall, but will return later in the season.
With Fey out, producers are still determining who will fill in on "Weekend Update" alongside co-anchor Amy Poehler.
Other returning cast members include Fred Armisen, Rachel Dratch, Will Forte, Darrell Hammond, Seth Meyers, Chris Parnell, Horatio Sanz and featured player Jason Sudeikis.
Meanwhile, Lonely Island performers Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone have landed gigs as writers on "SNL."
