Huston to head San Sebastian jury
Fest kick-started by 'Fastest Indian'
San Sebastian has also completed its competition with Ruy Guerra’s “O veneno da madrugada,” a big screen version of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s novel “In Evil Hour.” Pic replaces Danis Tanovic’s “Evil,” which has been moved to the Zabaltegi Festivals Top section, having been selected for a gala presentation at the Toronto festival.
Huston was awarded San Sebastian top lifetime achievement award, the Donostia Prize, in 1999.
Also serving on the jury are Spanish actress Veronica Forque (“Kika”), Italian thesp Enrico Lo Verso (“The Grooming,” “Che”), and French helmer, screenwriter and producer Claude Miller (“Classe Trip,” “Of Women and Magic”).
Jury is rounded up by Danish director Lone Scherfig (“Italian For Beginners,” “Wilber Wants To Kill Himself,”), production designer Dean Tavoularis (“The Godfather,” “The Godfather Part II,” “Apocalypse Now”) and Chilean writer and sometime film/TV director Antonio Skarmeta, author of the original novel which Michael Radford turned into “The Postman.”
Miller will also share San Sebastian’s second European Personality of the Year Award with Claude-Eric Poiroux in recogni-tion of their combined work at Euro pic exhibition initiative Europa Cinemas.
The 53rd San Sebastian Intl. Film Festival runs Sept. 15-24.
