Pic, which landed "Shakespeare in Love" director John Madden last January (Daily Variety, Jan. 23), will be lensed by "The Passion of the Christ" cinematographer Caleb Deschanel. Script is by "The Wings of the Dove" scribe Hossein Amini.
Leonard's novel follows what happens when a real estate agent (Lane) and her husband (Jane) fail at an extortion scheme, landing them both in the Federal Witness Protection program -- and on a pair of hit men's "to do" list. It's understood Rourke will play one of the hit men.
"Killshot" is produced by "The Cider House Rules" producer Richard Gladstein's Film Colony shingle and executive produced by Quentin Tarantino.
The Weinstein Co. slate already includes "Sin City 2," horror acquisition "Wolf Creek" and Stephen Frears' "Mrs. Henderson Presents."
