Pic, based on a short film by Rich Maur, deals with a "true-life phenomenon": 4,000 people disappear every year in New York, and most are last seen getting on the subway.
Radar founder Ted Field is exec producing, along with Aaron Kaplan and Sean Perrone.
Project was brought to Radar by shingle's Mike Weber.
Olson's pitch session with Radar was the first trip to Los Angeles for the scribe, who lives in Green Bay, Wis. His previous sales took place over the phone. Besides "Suffocate," he also wrote "Hum and Hive" for Escape Artists.
Radar is about to start shooting Focus Features' "Waist Deep," starring Tyrese. Earlier this year the shingle produced the remake of "The Amityville Horror" for MGM. Next up is "Zathura," based on the children's book by Chris Van Allsburg, for Columbia Pictures.
