Lachlan locked in deal

Former heir hasn't publicly discussed his future plans

NEW YORK -- Lachlan Murdoch, News Corp.'s now famously former heir apparent, has agreed not to work for a rival media company for two years or seek to steal employees from his family-owned company during that time, according to a document filed Wednesday with the SEC.

Murdoch ankled News Corp. last Friday. He hasn't publicly discussed his future plans besides moving back to Australia with his wife and young son.

Filing said News Corp. chairman-CEO Rupert Murdoch could receive a bonus of up to $25 million for fiscal 2005 and in future years if the conglom hits certain financial targets.

He received a $12.5 million bonus in fiscal '04.

Lachlan Murdoch could be eligible for a bonus of up to $7 million plus salary. Last year, he earned $1.8 million and received a $2 million bonus.

The performance metrics are linked to growth in earnings per share.

News Corp.'s fiscal year ended June 30. The company plans to release full-year financial results next Wednesday.
