Thesp's a 'Waitress'

Russell to star in romantic comedy

NEW YORK -- Keri Russell will topline indie project "Waitress" for Michael Roiff's Night & Day Pictures and helmer Adrienne Shelly.

Romantic comedy, skedded to shoot later this year, follows a baker who's missing the perfect recipe for love.

Shelly, who also penned the screenplay, recently helmed "I'll Take You There," starring Ally Sheedy. She has been featured as a thesp in such Hal Hartley projects as "The Unbelievable Truth" and "Trust."

Night & Day will produce with Map Point Pictures.

Map Point's Danielle Renfrew currently is in post on "Daltry Calhoun," which Quentin Tarantino is exec producing.

Exec producers on "Waitress" are Jeff Rose and Robert Bauer.

Pic marks Night & Day's first foray into financing. Company is backed by private equity investors.

Russell recently was seen in New Line Cinema's "The Upside of Anger" and co-stars in currently lensing "Mission: Impossible 3."
