Helmer's a 'Miracle' man

Dear signs on to Lone Runner pic

NEW YORK -- "Angels in the Outfield" helmer William Dear has signed on to direct "The Third Miracle" for Lone Runner Entertainment.

Indie pic is based on the true story of a team of impoverished boys from Monterrey, Mexico, circa 1957, who become the first non-U.S. team to win the Little League World Series.

Lone Runner topper W. William Winokur penned the script, and the company has optioned life rights to the story's central characters.

Winokur, whose novel "Marathon" is being published next year through Kissena Park Press, initially envisioned the project as a book before turning it into a script.

Lone Runner was formed in 2003 with the aim of producing "inspirational" features. Company has pacts in place with Mandalay Sports Action Entertainment and Titan Global Media.

Dear's previous credits include "Harry and the Hendersons."
