Ferrell was expected to join his longtime agent, Jason Heyman, when the rep left a partnership position at UTA to become a CAA agent. Ferrell continues to be managed by Jimmy Miller at Mosaic Media.
Ferrell's move gives CAA a viable comedy star and slightly loosens the stranglehold UTA had on that genre, most recently evidenced by its packaging of "Wedding Crashers." Ferrell, who had a cameo in that film, just wrapped the Marc Forster-directed "Stranger Than Fiction" and will then topline the untitled NASCAR comedy at Sony.
Commissions from the NASCAR picture and an "Elf" sequel are expected to remain with UTA, since those deals were initiated before Heyman's move.
