Cohen pulls stunt on ABC affiliate WAPT
But just when you thought Sacha Baron Cohen's Ali G/Borat/Bruno schtick might have run its course, the comic scores another interview coup.
Cohen, posing as Borat Sagdiyev, was interviewed live on ABC's Jackson, Miss., affiliate WAPT July 13 for a segment on the Kazakh journalist's travels through America.
Halfway through the three-minute segment, anchor Brad McMullan realized something wasn't quite right .
"He handled it well, but it was tough to shut (Cohen) up," station G.M. Stuart Kellogg told the Jackson Clarion-Ledger.
As Cohen was being escorted out of the station, he twice jumped into a live shot with weatherman Ken Johnson.
"It seemed plausible that he was who he said he was," Kellogg says. "Who knows what an accent from Kazakhstan sounds like?"
Cohen's stunt was caught on camera, a positive development for 20th Century Fox, which appears to be making headway on production of mockumentary "Borat."
Earlier this year Cohen's character caused a near-riot at a Virginia rodeo after spoofing "The Star Spangled Banner."
Director Larry Charles took the helm of the production after Todd Phillips ankled. Film has two weeks left to shoot.
Cohen's "Da Ali G Show" aired for two seasons on HBO.
