Born in Fresno, Calif., Bunch was raised in Manhattan Beach and served for two years in Vietnam. He worked as a magazine writer, underground magazine editor and press agent for music groups before starting to write novels and TV shows.
He was probably best known for the Vietnam novel "A Reckoning For Kings," written with Allan Cole. Working with Cole from 1976 to 1993, he wrote over 100 TV scripts including shows such as "Quincy," "The Rockford Files," "The Incredible Hulk," "Hunter" and "The A Team."
Bunch's eight-volume sci fi series "Sten," written with Cole, was popular worldwide, especially in Russia, where it sold more than ten million copies and was on the Moscow bestseller list for two years.
His solo-written books included "The Empire Stone Trilogy," the "Star Risk" books, the "Seer King" trilogy and the "Dragon Master" trilogy.
Bunch is survived by his wife, Karen; his mother, a sister and a brother.
