Powell to retire from IATSE post

DiTolla unanimously elected on Friday

Edward C. Powell, First VP of the Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, has announced his retirement after 34 years on the general exec board.

Daniel DiTolla was unanimously elected Friday at the board meeting in Honolulu to fill the open seat and will serve as 13th VP.

Powell joined IATSE Local 16 Stage Technicians in 1951 and subsequently became VP of the local. He was elected business manager of Local 16 and remained in that position until 1994.

Powell is also a founder and current chairman of the Local 16 Health & Welfare Trust Funds. He also has served as VP of the California Labor Federation.

Di Tolla, currently serving as co-director of IATSE's organizing department, began his IATSE career in 1978 when he joined IA Mixed Local No. 632 in New Jersey. He was elected Local 632 president in 1989 and served in that capacity until 2001.

DiTolla is also the son of the late Alfred DiTolla who served as IATSE president from 1986 to 1994.
