Move comes on the heels of Lapenda's signing to exec produce TV and feature projects for Mandalay Sports Action Entertainment, an affiliate of Mandalay Pictures, and Lone Runner Entertainment. The Mandalay Lone Runner partnership aims to focus on "inspirational" pics.
Lapenda is known primarily as a prolific producer and promoter of "no-holds-barred" or "mixed-martial-arts" fighting events through his brand Combat Channel.
"Bad Guys" was penned by Tim Cogshell and helmed by Rick Jacobson. Pic follows a group of mismatched would-be drug dealers caught between the police and the Mafia.
PEG will focus on English- and Spanish-language pics, Lapenda said.
"My heritage is very important to me, and as I have become more acquainted with the inner workings of Hollywood, I realized that I was in a position to provide opportunities for both Latins living here in the U.S. and those in South America," Lapenda said of his biz plan.
Focusing primarily on pics budgeted up to $20 million, the banner's upcoming projects include horror pic "The Nightmare Man," and a feature centering on the extreme fighting world.
