Nash and Bob Kosberg, who heads Nash Entertainment's film arm, developed the idea together and will produce, with Steve Kaire as co-producer. Exec-turned-scripter Julie Golden will pen the screenplay.
Story is inspired by the many letters sent from all over the world to Sherlock Holmes' London address, 221B Baker St., asking the great detective for help in solving real-life crimes. "They think Sherlock is alive and that he's real," Nash said.
"There was a bank on that site that got so many letters that they hired somebody to be Sherlock's secretary and answer the letters as if he were really alive. I always wanted to do a new take on Sherlock Holmes, but there was nothing to do new until we found those letters."
Pic will center on a man living at that address who decides to take on a case from one of the letters. In becoming a detective, his whole life is turned upside down.
Following his success in unscripted skeins, Nash ("For Love or Money," "Who Wants to Marry My Dad?") is moving aggressively into feature films. He has several pics set up at studios, including "To Wally Ward" at Revolution (Daily Variety, Jan. 7), a sports comedy at Paramount in partnership with Walter Latham and a comedy at Ivan Reitman's Montecito Films.
His current TV projects include ESPN movie "Twice a Hero," about a man with an artificial leg who appears in a Major League Baseball game, and "Crunkville" for MTV.
Walden, which specializes in developing properties based on works of literature, aims to launch educational materials in connection with the pic. Company is producing Disney's "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and Paramount's live-action version of "Charlotte's Web."
Golden recently completed an adaptation of "The Calligrapher" for producer Sigurjon Sighvatsson. She was an exec VP at Intermedia, where she worked on "K-19," "Adaptation" and "The Wedding Planner."
