Project centers on a 13-year-old Brooklyn boy who sets out to find the anonymous author of a popular fantasy-adventure book series when the publisher offers a million-dollar prize to whomever can find the mysterious scribe. Kid then discovers that the fantastical tales in the books are real.
Weinsteins will develop the pitch -- the first bought by their new shingle, the temporarily dubbed Weinstein Co. -- as a possible franchise.
The Wilsons' script credits include Intermedia's "The Snow Queen" and Paramount's "The Stink Files." The pair are currently collaborating on an untitled project with William Joyce ("Robots").
"This project is adventurous, creative and original and has the potential to become a family-friendly media franchise at our new company," Harvey Weinstein said.
Production exec Eric Robinson brought the project to the Weinsteins and will oversee.
The Weinsteins' slate already includes "Sin City 2," Elmore Leonard adaptation "Killshot," horror pic "Wolf Creek" and Stephen Frears' "Mrs. Henderson Presents," among other pics.
