Martin Scorsese is negotiating to direct a theatrical documentary on Boeing rival Airbus, constructor of Europe's super jumbo jet.
Scorsese will team with Spanish docu producer-director Jose Luis Lopez-Linares ("Un instante en la vida ajena," "Strangers to Themselves"), who will take a co-director credit.
Per Spanish monthly movie magazine "Fotogramas," the doc will establish a parallel between the creation of Airbus airliners and a cathedral, recording the contribution of a factory worker, engineer and architect. Pic will shoot in Toulouse, France; Bremen, Germany; and Cadiz, Spain.
The Airbus docu is the latest project from Coleccion Inmortales, a joint venture created in 2003 by Madrid's Morena Films and Fernando Sulichin's Paris-based Rule 8 to produce theatrical docs directed by maverick filmmakers.
Alvaro Longoria, Morena exec producer on Coleccion Inmortales projects, declined to comment.
Coleccion Inmortales' first two docu pics were directed by Oliver Stone: "Looking for Fidel," an extended interview with Fidel Castro after the Cuban dictator cracked down on political dissent in 2003, and "Persona Non Grata," Stone's vision of the Middle East conflict, playing off his attempts to interview Yasser Arafat.
Spike Lee is prepping "Fusion," in which Spanish dancer Joaquin Cortes travels to Brazil to create a show mixing flamenco with Afro-Brazilian styles. Film will climax with a concert on Ipanema Beach featuring Cortes and Brazilian music stars.
