'McCrearys' find a life
Dreamworks hitches to pitch
Seth Bass and Jonathan Tolins have sold their pitch "The McCrearys," based on a segment from Public Radio Intl.'s "This American Life," to DreamWorks. Bob Cooper's Landscape Entertainment is producing.
"The McCrearys" was optioned by Cooper prior to the first-look deal that "This American Life," owned jointly by Chicago public radio station WBEZ-FM and host Ira Glass, pacted with Warner Bros. in 2002.
Pic, based on a true story, is about a brother and sister who, trying to escape the clutches of their overbearing mother, invent a family. The web of lies they spin becomes so complex that this invented family starts to take on a life of its own.
Bass and Tolins wrote "Martian Child," starring John Cusack, which is shooting at New Line. They also wrote the original script to "American Neurotic," a Jim Carrey vehicle at Sony.
Landscape is in production on New Line's "Mr. Woodcock," starring Billy Bob Thornton, and is prepping "John Tucker Must Die" for director Betty Thomas at Fox.
