Pic is a negative pickup for Sony and marks Polone's first feature project at the studio since he inked a first-look deal there for film and TV in April.
The psychological thriller concerns an idyllic town whose population of 436 has remained unchanged for 100 years. Sent out to find the reason for this consistency, a census-taker (Sisto) finds that something much more sinister may be at hand.
Script was written by tyro Michael Kingston.
Polone will produce via his Pariah shingle. Jessika Borsiczky and Kathy Landsberg will exec produce.
On the bigscreen, Sisto is starring in Wild Bunch's "The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things," with Asia Argento. He recently wrapped the thriller "Unknown" alongside Jim Caviezel and Greg Kinnear for GreeneStreet Films.
"Population 436" is MacLaren's first feature. Helmer's TV credits include Fox's "The X-Files" and "John Doe."
Polone's feature producing credits include "The Secret Window" and "The Panic Room," both for Sony.
