Helmers Steven Soderbergh, Alfonso Cuaron, Richard Linklater, Kevin Smith, Errol Morris, John Sayles, Rebecca Miller and Gary Winick will be among those serving on the center's advisory board. Nonhelmers Noah Cowan, Cynthia Swartz and Dan Talbot also are members.
According to IFC prexy Jonathan Sehring, board members will mainly be involved with programming, "be it presenting new filmmakers or hosting a weekend of personal favorite films." Smith and Cuaron in particular are already discussing possible screening series.
Sehring noted, "They're all very busy. How they work with us is going to evolve over time."
Center, which will be the home of IFC, is located on Sixth Avenue in the former Waverly Theater. It will house three theaters, digital editing suites, conference rooms and a restaurant.
Both IFC-financed films and other unaffiliated projects will be in post-production at the facility.
Sehring's hope for the space, which will house working filmmakers and moviegoers under one roof, is "that people come and hang out. Not that they just come and see a movie and leave."
