'Shutter' clicks at Regency

Fox-owned studio pacts to remake Thai thriller

Capping months of negotiations, Fox-based Regency Enterprises has inked a high-six-figure rights deal to remake Thai hit thriller "Shutter" into an English-language horror pic.

Original, one of the highest-grossing films in Thai history, follows a young photog and his girlfriend who find mysterious shadows in his photographs that may be tied to their involvement in a hit-and-run accident.

Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoom Wongpoom helmed the original. No writers are currently attached to the remake.

"The Ring" exec producer Roy Lee is producing the "Shutter" redo with partner Doug Davison via their Vertigo Entertainment shingle. Duo are also producers on the upcoming Disney release "Dark Water," an English-language remake of Hideo Nakata's Japanese hit of the same name.

Regency Enterprises theatrical production exec Alex Sundell is overseeing development on "Shutter" for Regency production prexy Sanford Panitch.
