Volk's book tracks a century in the life of a most unusual family. Her Austrian-Jewish relatives brought pastrami to the New World and first stirred scallions into cream cheese. They ran a variety of restaurants, culminating in the main family "store," Morgen's restaurant, considered for many years to be the heart of the bustling garment district.

Scribe also wrote "Niagara, Niagara," released by Artisan Entertainment and nominated for a 1999 Independent Spirit Award and, more recently, sci-fi drama "Outward Bound" for Rob Paris and Peter Douglas' Mission Entertainment.
