'Batman' arrives earlier than expected

Pic to open June 15

"Batman Begins" will begin a little sooner than expected. Warner Bros. has moved the release date of its summer tentpole up two days to Wednesday, June 15.

While Wednesday openings have become common in the summer -- since kids are out of school, midweek biz is bigger at theaters -- Warners distrib prexy Dan Fellman said the move was spurred by international plans to begin "Batman" on the 15th.

"We felt it made sense to move our domestic opening date to coincide with the earliest overseas date," he said, "so that our fans here could share the excitement of seeing 'Batman Begins' on the first possible day it appears theatrically."

"Batman" is also opening on June 15 in France, Belgium, Mexico, the Philippines and Taiwan.
