Clive Owen has inked a deal to star in Universal's "Children of Men." Alfonso Cuaron will helm the sci-fi pic about a future where people can no longer have children.

Produced by Strike Entertainment's Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, film is based on P.D. James' novel of the same title.

Story is set in a dystopic society, radically transformed by humans' inability to reproduce and sent into chaos by the news of the death of the earth's youngest person, age 18.

When the first woman becomes pregnant in more than 20 years, and thus becomes the most sought-after person in the world, Owen's character is enlisted to protect her.

Owen, who most recently starred in "Sin City" and last fall's "Closer," will next appear in "Derailed." He is also starring with Denzel Washington and Jodie Foster in Universal's "Inside Man," set to lens this summer, which Spike Lee will helm and Imagine's Brian Grazer will produce.

Hit and Run's Hilary Shor and Tony Smith will also serve in a producing capacity on the pic. Strike's Tom Bliss will exec produce. Shepherding the pic for U is senior VP Dylan Clark, while Kristal Laiblin will supervise for Strike.
