Director of sports Peter Salmon will become CEO at TV Corp., owner of Mentorn and sports producer Sunset + Vine.
Salmon's unexpected departure follows that of BBC1 controller Lorraine Heggessey and comedy honcho Mark Freeland. Both exited the pubcaster for key roles at indies.
Salmon, a former BBC 1 controller, will take up his new job this summer.
He was to have played a big role in overseeing the move of some BBC activities from London to Manchester, in the north of England. This makes his decision to quit a considerable blow to the pubcaster.
Salmon, like Heggessey, is believed to have been unhappy at the scale of job cuts at the Beeb, expected to lead to the loss of one in five employees.
TV Corp. is the sixth-biggest U.K. independent. Salmon's arrival is expected to spark a move by the combo to acquire other, smaller outfits.
Blighty's independent sector is a rapidly consolidating business in the wake of new rules allowing indies to own rights to their shows.
Meanwhile, Jay Kandola, recently promoted to deputy director of acquisitions at Channel 4, is on the verge of jumping ship to replace Jeff Ford as Five's acquisitions topper. Ford is joining C4 as chief of acquisitions.
A spokesperson for Five said an announcement is imminent.
