Mouse getting creative

Aviv upped to chief creative officer

The Walt Disney Co. has upped marketing topper Oren Aviv, giving him the newly invented title of chief creative officer.

Promotion keeps one of the Mouse House's hottest execs in the fold. Aviv is interested in producing and being more involved in the creative process, associates say. His contract was due to expire and other studios were pursuing him.

Studio's strong grosses, especially with smashes "Finding Nemo" and "Pirates of the Caribbean," have raised Aviv's influence at the studio. He was also boosted by the strong performance of "National Treasure," for which he got story and executive producer credit.

He took over as sole prexy of Buena Vista Pictures Marketing in November 2000. He has reported directly to studio chairman Richard Cook.

During his time at Disney, Aviv has also received story and exec producer credit on two pics, "National Treasure" and 1997 laffer "Rocket Man."

Aviv joined the studio in 1991 as a VP of creative services and was later promoted to senior VP and creative director. He has overseen numerous creative campaigns and has kudos including Clio, Belding and Key Art awards to his credit.

Before coming to the Mouse House, he was director of special projects for Cap Cities/ABC, where he helped launch skeins including "Twin Peaks" and "Roseanne." His tenure there overlapped with that of Disney topper-in-waiting Bob Iger.

Aviv's name isn't the first to be linked to the "chief creative officer" title. There were reports that the title was being considered for outgoing chief Mouseketeer Michael Eisner.
