The Limp Bizkit front man has teamed with reality producers Bischoff-Hervey Entertainment and Scott Sternberg for "My Life With Fred Durst," a hybrid talker/docusoap that will feature a mix of celeb interviews and slice-of-life segments revealing Durst as a father, businessman and musician.
At least two cablers have expressed interest in the weekly one-hour, though producers will not formally pitch networks until next week.
Durst, who has a role in NBC's upcoming limited drama "Revelations," will exec produce the series with co-creators Eric Bischoff, Jason Hervey, Patrick Panzerella and Sternberg.
Bischoff says most people have the wrong impression of Durst as an out-of-control rocker, though the singer did recently make headlines for some rock-star behavior. Earlier this year, a homemade sex tape made by and starring the singer spread on the Internet -- a la Paris Hilton's mobile phone pics -- after, he alleged, it was stolen off of his computer by hackers.
Durst says he wants the show to be as far from a tabloid as possible and show sides of him not covered in the press. "I just want to have a spontaneous platform to have good conversations with people, who aren't necessarily on the show to sell a movie of product," he said. "I'm not interested in being controversial and pushing envelopes."
Bischoff was so impressed by the singer that he pitched him the idea for the talk show soon after their first meeting. "Fred can engage you in a conversation about classical music or films and then shift gears and bring up to speed on the world of extreme sports," he said. "His sense of what is on the horizon of pop culture is uncanny."
Durst is the founder and CEO of record label Flawless Entertainment.
BHE and Sternberg are working on a high-stakes gaming show for A&E (Daily Variety, Dec. 8). BHE, separately, has a pilot set up for CMT and sold eight episodes of a reality show starring Kathy Hilton -- mother of Paris -- to NBC last year.
