DreamWorks' dreamgirl

Knowles gets supreme makeover

Beyonce Knowles is negotiating to star in DreamWorks' "Dreamgirls," the Bill Condon-directed adaptation of the Broadway hit that's a thinly veiled story of the rise of Diana Ross and the Supremes.

The negotiations began after Knowles met with Condon and producer Laurence Mark last week in New York to test for a role.Knowles made her feature debut as Foxxy Cleopatra in "Austin Powers in Goldmember," followed with a role in "The Fighting Temptations," and will be seen this summer starring with Steve Martin and Kevin Kline in "The Pink Panther." She is spending much of the year touring with Destiny's Child.

Condon, who last directed "Kinsey" and who scripted "Chicago" and won an Oscar for writing "Gods and Monsters," has penned the script for "Dreamgirls" and is eyeing a fall start date in Los Angeles. He continues to hone the script as he casts the roles. The film retains Tom Eyen's book and lyrics as well as Henry Krieger's music.
