3 playwrights on Horizon

2005-06 season will open with Lapine's 'Fran'

Plays by Christopher Durang, James Lapine and Keith Bunin will highlight the 35th anniversary season at Playwrights Horizons. All three scribes have seen previous works staged at the Off Broadway theater.

The 2005-06 season opens with Lapine's "Fran's Bed," which details the struggle of an incapacitated woman whose fate lies in the hands of caretakers. The playwright directs. Previews begin Sept. 2.

In Durang's comedy "Miss Witherspoon," a lapsed Catholic finds herself in purgatory and then back on earth. Emily Mann directs the co-production, with the McCarter Theater. Previews begin Nov. 11.

A minister and Bible scholar grapples with the tragedy of her estranged son in Bunin's "The Busy World Is Hushed." Dates will be announced for the world premiere.

The Lapine and Durang plays are New York premieres.
