Duffs are 'Material' girls

Hilary, Haylie team for laffer

Sibling thesps Hilary Duff and Haylie Duff will team for the first time in "Material Girls," with Martha Coolidge directing.

Maverick Films and Patriot Pictures co-finance the project, with Arclight Films repping the pic's foreign sales. Production begins in Los Angeles April 18.

Comedy follows a pair of celebutante cosmetics heiresses who lose their fortune in a corporate scandal and launch an investigation to expose the culprit.

Story was inspired by Maverick co-chairman Madonna's hit song "Material Girl," which Hilary Duff will re-record for the pic's soundtrack.

John Quaintance (NBC's "Joey") penned the script, rewritten by Susan Jansen ("The Lizzie Maguire Movie") and Amy Rardin & Jessica O'Toole.

Maverick-based producers Eve LaDue and David Faigenblum produce with Maverick's co-chairman Guy Oseary, co-head Milton Kim and president Mark Morgan, along with Rafter H Entertainment's Susan Duff.

Chief operating officer Tim Wesley will oversee physical production for Maverick. Patriot principal Michael Mendelsohn is executive producer.

Previous Patriot pics include "Air Force One," "What Women Want," "The Mothman Prophecies" and "Reservoir Dogs."

Films in development at Maverick include "Twilight" for Paramount Pictures and MTV Films and a remake of Korean horror hit "The Phone" for Focus Features. Also in development is FX series "The Travelers," starring Eddie Izzard.
