"Coach Carter" helmer Thomas Carter will direct "Freedom House" for Warner Bros. Pictures.

"Freedom House" is based on the story of Freedom House Enterprises, an organization that trained residents of Pittsburgh's poorest neighborhood to become the first modern-day paramedics.

Stephen David wrote the script from his pitch, which was rewritten by "Barbershop" scribe Don Scott. Warners senior VP Polly Cohen supervises development.

Bettina Sofia Viviano produces through Viviano-Feldman Entertainment. Viviano recently merged her Viviano Entertainment management and production shingle with the Richard Feldman Co.

Produced by Paramount Pictures and MTV Films, "Coach Carter" starred Samuel L. Jackson and grossed $67 million.

Carter's credits include "Save the Last Dance" and "Swing Kids."
