Scribe pens a D'Works deal

LaBute attached to direct Kelley adaptation

Noonan

Scribe Brandon Noonan has landed a pre-negotiated blind writing deal with DreamWorks, based on his adaptation of "Dem," William Melvin Kelley's satirical novel, written in 1967.

"Dem" concerns a selfish white marketing professional who's forced to take stock of his life when his wife gives birth to a black baby.

Pic is being produced by Pretty Pictures' Gail Mutrux and Valerie Dean. Playwright Neil LaBute is attached to direct.

"Dem" was Noonan's first screenplay and convinced enthusiastic DreamWorks' execs to bring him aboard for another project.
