With the battle over indecency still raging on Capitol Hill, Fox Broadcasting is beefing up its standards and practices department with the recruitment of a new top censor.
Nicole Bernard has been named senior VP of broadcast standards and practices, a gig that puts her in charge of the net's internal content review process for all programming and advertising. She reports to Ed Wilson, prexy of the Fox Television Network.
Move adds another layer to Fox's content review process. Roland McFarland, who had headed Fox's standards and practices department since 1994, will continue to oversee day-to-day interaction with the creative community but will now report to Bernard.
Bernard comes to Fox from the Apollo Theater Foundation, where she was senior VP of new business development. But she also has D.C. connections, and with indecency still a hot button in Congress, Fox wanted to bolster its content review team.
"Her legal expertise will be a welcome addition as we continue to refine and improve our broadcast standards initiatives," Wilson said, noting Bernard's "impressive track record" as an entertainment attorney and exec.
Bernard was responsible for all new business initiatives at the Apollo. Before that, she had a private practice specializing in helping recording artists and execs expand their brands. She earlier served as senior director of A&R for MCA Records.
