Bridges in talks for Mouse sports story

Disney is in negotiations with Jeff Bridges for gymnastics feature "Stick It," from writer-director Jessica Bendinger.

Story concerns a teen who carries her rebellious attitude to the regimented world of women's gymnastics.

Missy Peregrym ("Life as We Know It") is set to star as the headstrong gymnast. Bridges will play her coach, Vanessa Lengies her rival.

Pic is skedded to start shooting in late May.

Gail Lyon is producing the project. Execs Kristen Burr and Louanne Brickhouse oversee for the studio, which will release the film under the Touchstone label.

Four-time Oscar nominee Bridges recently wrapped "Tideland" for helmer Terry Gilliam and finished shooting on Newmarket laffer "The Moguls" last summer.

Thesp's history with Mouse extends back to 1982's pioneering computer-graphics pic "Tron," still a cult fave.

Bendinger ("Bring It On") wrote the comedy as a spec script and will make her helming bow on the pic. (Daily Variety, October 13).

Her other writing credits include "The Truth About Charlie" and "First Daughter."
