Par falls for family drama 'Rising'

Pic set it up with Bonaventura, Happy Madison

Paramount has bought the family adventure spec script "Trudain Rising," written by Scott Sandler, Kane Ng and Dan Hannon.

Studio has set it up with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Happy Madison's Adam Sandler (Scott's brother) and Jack Giarraputo.

Story, which is similar to "The Last Starfighter," is about a pair of orphaned brothers, the younger of whom discovers he's imbued with supernatural powers from a dwindling race and is besieged by alien assassins.

Script sale is the first for Sandler, an attorney who's helped negotiate his brother's deals in the past. Par exec VP Brian Witten and Ed Goemans will oversee for the studio while di Bonaventura veep Jeremy Steckler will oversee for the shingle.

Upcoming for Happy Madison is Par and Sony's "The Longest Yard," due out May 27 and produced along with MTV, and "Click" for Columbia and Revolution, with shooting set for June.

Paramount recently bought "Snow Blind" for Par-based di Bonaventura and teen-superhero comic "Invincible" for him and Circle of Confusion. Di Bonaventura's a producer on Warner's recent "Constantine" and Universal's "Doom."
