The fifth annual Phoenix Film Festival will unspool more than 60 feature-length and short films April 6-10.
For the second consecutive year, Cox Communications and the Independent Film Channel will sponsor the festivities, which last year drew an audience of more than11,000.
IFC will also provide a special showcase unspooling of the IFC docu "Dust to Glory," directed by Dana Brown. Pic, which provides an in-depth look at an annual off-road race held in Baja, Mexico, fits into the fest's broader efforts to cast a light on Mexican filmmaking via showcase series "Mexican Cinema in the 21st Century" and the seminar "The State of Mexican Cinema."
Lions Gate prexy Tom Ortenberg, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick will receive the 2005 Copper Wing Tribute, to be presented by Tom Arnold. The Bacon-directed "Loverboy," which was co-produced with and stars Sedgwick, recently premiered at Sundance, and it is slated for an April 9 screening at the fest.
Opening night kicks off with "Happy Endings," Don Roos' feature starring Arnold, Laura Dern and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Closing the fest is "Mad Hot Ballroom," a ballroom dancing pic that recently premiered at Slamdance.
Other films being showcased include Todd Solondz's "Palindromes," Israeli import "Nina's Tragedies" and 2004 Cannes screener "The Edukators."
