Duo turns to small screen with 'Mujeres'

MADRID -- Pedro and Agustin Almodovar's Madrid-based shingle El Deseo is entering TV production with its first dramedy series, "Mujeres" (Women).

Skein is about a grandmother, fortysomething mother and teen daughter living in a downtown district of a large city.

Series is directed by Felix Sabroso and Dunia Ayaso, who helmed comedy movie "Descongelate!" (Chill Out) in 2003. Agustin Almodovar is exec producer. Series will be produced by El Deseo line producer Esther Garcia.

"Women" will air on pubcaster RTVE's flagship channel TVE1 beginning in September.

Series is part of a film-TV production alliance launched in 2002 by El Deseo and Barcelona production and services company Mediapro. The latter's owner, Jaume Roures, also will exec produce "Mujeres."

Pact has yielded wide-ranging fare including Larry Levene's theatrical documentary "Cesar y Zain" and Isabel Coixet's upcoming oil-rig movie "The Secret Life of Words," toplining Tim Robbins and Sarah Polley.
