Turner, Mouse go to college

Cdigix inks Net content deals

'The Incredibles'

Disney's 'The Incredibles' is among the titles in Cdigix's deal.

Cdigix, an online movie and music service for college students, has signed its first studio content deals, acquiring movies and TV shows from the Walt Disney Co. and Turner Broadcasting.

Netco, which has distribution deals with 21 colleges and universities, will offer Mouse House films including "The Incredibles" and "The Village" as they enter the video-on-demand window. It also will have access to skeins from Disney-owned ESPN, such as "World Series of Poker."

Deal with Turner includes Cartoon Network's "Adult Swim" lineup, which is popular with college students, as well as NASCAR racing highlights.

Cdigix's standard subscription fee is $5.99 per month for movies and $3 per month for music from all four major labels and indies, though participating schools can choose to subsidize the fee.

MPAA and RIAA have strongly encouraged services like Cdigix, as well as college outreach by mass-market online music and movie services like Napster and Movielink, in hopes of cutting down on piracy.
