Von Trier playing for laffs
Helmer pens 'Clown' segs that will air in 2006
Von Trier has scripted two episodes of Denmark's popular sitcom "The Clown," which will air in 2006 on TV Zulu, the quirky spin-off of national commercial channel TV2 Danmark.
It is the first time that he has dabbled in comedy, but not in TV. Both editions of Von Trier's TV series "The Kingdom" were popular in Denmark in the mid-1990s, and his first entry into TV came with "Medea," his take on the Euripides play.
"The Clown" features popular stand-up comedians Casper Christiansen and Frank Hvam.
"Washington," the third part of Von Trier's latest film trilogy following "Dogville" and "Manderlay," is set to begin lensing in early 2006.
