The confabs with Weisbach, who is currently Simon & Schuster veepee and editor at large, is a signal that the book brand will continue.
As Bob and Harvey Weinstein work out their exit from Disney, it's generally conceded that the Mouse House will keep the name of Miramax for film ventures. Disney currently has such book shingles as Hyperion.
Harvey Weinstein has indicated that books will definitely be part of the brothers' upcoming venture, but it's not clear yet if there will be any official connection with Miramax Books.
Miramax declined comment.
Weisbach would replace Jonathan Burnham, prexy and editor in chief of Miramax Books who is going to HarperCollins. His exit was announced last week.
Weisbach has been with S&S since 2002; his previous publishing gigs include a stint as senior editor at Bantam Books and his own imprint, Rob Weisbach Books, at William Morrow.
At Bantam, he worked with such bestsellers as Jerry Seinfeld's "SeinLanguage," Paul Reiser's "Couplehood" and Ellen DeGeneres' "My Point -- And I Do Have One" as well as nonceleb successes including Brad Meltzer's "The Tenth Justice."
