Goldberg has been general counsel since December 2003, when he replaced Doreen Braverman. WGA West exec director John McLean said that in addition to continuing his duties as general counsel, Goldberg would oversee enforcement of contract and credit rules.
Goldberg's background includes serving as counsel to the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitutional Rights, counsel to Sens. Birch Bayh and John Tunney, and attorney and legislative liaison for the Justice Dept.'s Civil Rights Division. He's also written for TV and film, with small-screen credits including "The Paper Chase," "L.A. Law," "It's Garry Shandling's Show," "Newhart" and "Life Goes On."
Goldberg's been a trustee on the Writers Guild-Industry Health and Pension Fund since 1990, served as chairman of the trusts and has been co-chair of the fund's benefits committee since 1996.
"Marshall ... is the first person from a creative background to serve in a senior position at a creative guild," McLean said. "He has the unique ability to combine a creator's vision and a lawyer's analytical skills in addressing the problems facing the guild."
