New Line is crafting the action-comedy "Ride Along" as a starring vehicle for Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson and Ryan Reynolds.
Roger Kumble has just been set to direct the film, and he will do a rewrite of a Greg Coolidge script to tailor the pic to the stars.
Johnson will play a tough cop who tries to halt a budding romance between his sister and a fellow schoolteacher.
The film is being put together by production prexy Toby Emmerich.
After closing a deal with Kumble, New Line will negotiate with the stars in hopes of getting the film into production later this year.
Johnson, who currently can be seen in "Be Cool," next stars as a football coach in the Sony drama "Gridiron Gang."
Reynolds recently starred for New Line in "Blade 3," and he just wrapped the Kumble-directed "Just Friends" for the studio. Reynolds will next be seen in MGM and Dimension remake "The Amityville Horror."
