Dedicated to the advancement of sound, the Cinema Audio Society paid tribute to achievements in mixing at its annual awards banquet held Feb. 19.
Presented with a career achievement award was Willie D. Burton, who has worked on more than 75 films, including "The Shawshank Redemption"; "The Green Mile"; and the upcoming "Jarhead," with Jamie Foxx and Jake Gyllenhaal.
A technical achievement award was given to Lectrosonics for the Digital Hybrid Wireless 400 Series, a wireless mike system used in film and TV.
In the category of motion pictures, "The Aviator" flew away with the top sound prize, defeating "Spider-Man 2," "Finding Neverland," "The Bourne Supremacy" and "Ray" (which took home Oscar's sound trophy).
On the TV front, the honorees were "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers," "Deadwood" and "Carnegie Hall Opening Night 2004."
