In the evening's middle hour, "American Idol" (11.2 rating/26 share in adults 18-49, 26.4 million viewers overall) defeated the combined ABC-CBS-NBC competish in adults 18-49 and other categories. "Idol" continues to perform on par with last year's averages. Opening the night for Fox were second-place 18-49 finishes for "That '70 Show" (3.9/10, 8.4 million viewers overall) and "The Simple Life" (3.6/9, 8.3 million viewers overall).
From 8 to 9:01, "Lost" (7.5/20 in adults 18-49, 19.5 million viewers overall) was up week-to-week and dominated the competish, and lead-out "Alias" (4.1/10 in adults 18-49, 10 million viewers overall) was a distant second place.
CBS was paced by an 18-49 slot victory at 10 for "CSI: NY" (4.8/12 in adults 18-49, 14.1 million viewers overall) over NBC's "Law & Order" (4.3/11 in adults 18-49, 14.5 million viewers overall), although the two were neck-and-neck in both adults 25-54 and total viewers. ABC's "Wife Swap" ran third in the hour (3.5/9 in adults 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall).
Also for CBS, "60 Minutes" (2.4/6 in adults 18-49, 9.9 million viewers overall) was on the high end, and 9:30 laffer "Yes, Dear" (3.3/7 in adults 18-49, 9.7 million viewers overall) did a good job holding onto its "King of Queens" lead-in (3.5/8 in adults 18-49, 10.2 million viewers overall).
