Eastwood has committed to lend his likeness and voice for the game and will be extensively involved in development through his Malpaso label and Tehama Cos.
Games mark the first partnership for Eastwood and the studio since tension that arose over "Million Dollar Baby." WB declined to wholly finance the $30 million pic, currently an Oscar frontrunner, forcing the helmer to get Lakeshore Entertainment to split the budget in return for international rights.
Given its importance to the studio, "Dirty Harry" looks likely to be the second game WB is funding on its own.
Studio's Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will release its first internally produced game, "The Matrix Online," next month. Unit has primarily partnered with outside publishers for games based on WB properties but will more directly oversee development on this title.
"Dirty Harry" was selected by WBIE as a library title that would naturally transition into the vidgame space, but studio wanted to wait until it could secure Eastwood's involvement before moving ahead.
"We identified 'Dirty Harry' as something gamers were interested in and we were excited about," said WBIE topper Jason Hall. "To our elation, Clint was very knowledgeable about how this could be interesting as a storytelling medium and very supportive."
No release date has been set, but WBIE is developing "Dirty Harry" for next generation versions of PlayStation and Xbox, making a 2007 launch likely.
"Dirty Harry" is the second Hollywood franchise from the '70s to transition into vidgames with major talent on board recently. Electronic Arts is making a "Godfather" game with involvement of Robert Duvall, James Caan and the late Marlon Brando.
