Hard-up Magyar TV cuts staffers

World Brief

BUDAPEST -- Hungary's hard-up state television behemoth Magyar Televizio (MTV) is axing 87 management jobs out of 157 to save $1 million a year.

Chairman Zoltan Rudi says the network's board of directors will be cut from 18 members to 10.

To reduce centralization, Rudi says channels MTV1 and M2 will be responsible for acquiring both foreign and locally produced programming from their own budgets.
